Jordan Climbs Three Points in the 2024 Corruption Perceptions Index

Jordan has made notable progress in the 2024 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), advancing by three points and securing the 59th spot out of 180 countries and regions assessed, reflecting a significant improvement in its efforts to combat corruption.

The boost in Jordan's CPI score can largely be attributed to key factors that focus on public sector transparency, including enhanced awareness, stricter oversight, increased accountability, and the automation of government services. These efforts have contributed to a reduction in bribery and other forms of corruption within public institutions.

The CPI evaluates various dimensions of government integrity, including the effectiveness of anti-bribery measures, the activation of accountability mechanisms, the monitoring of public funds, and the prevention of embezzlement. The index also assesses the ability of governments to prevent the abuse of office for personal gain, as well as efforts to streamline bureaucratic procedures that often fuel corruption.

Additionally, the CPI looks at how well a government addresses nepotism and favoritism in public sector hiring, enforces anti-corruption laws, protects whistleblowers and journalists, and ensures access to information for the public.

It is important to note that the CPI does not cover private sector issues such as tax fraud, money laundering, financial secrecy, or illicit financial flows.

Jordan’s upward movement in the 2024 CPI is a positive sign of its commitment to improving governance and reducing corruption, reflecting both the challenges and progress the country continues to experience in these areas.
